Plugixa Permalink Manager

WordPress gives a site one permalink structure and applies it to everything. That is fine until you want products under /shop/tents/, guides under /journal/guides/, a help page at /help/size-guide/ and one best-seller at an address short enough to print. Then you are choosing between a stack of rewrite snippets and a site whose addresses never quite say what the pages are.

Plugixa Permalink Manager gives every post, page, product and category an address of its own. Type one by hand and it is checked for conflicts while you type, or write a pattern for a whole content type and preview it on your real content before saving. Addresses are stored in the plugin’s own indexed table, so a shop with fifty thousand products resolves an address as quickly as a blog with fifty posts.

And changing an address is safe. The old one becomes a redirect to the new one, in a single hop, automatically. Bulk tools show what they would do before they do it, and a run that moved addresses can be undone.

Features

Everything you need

An address of its own for everything

Every item can have exactly the address you choose, stored once and guaranteed unique.

  • Posts, pages and post types

Give any post, page or custom post type item its own address, whatever the site's permalink structure says.

  • Categories, tags and taxonomies

Terms get custom addresses too, so a category can live at /journal/guides/ instead of /category/guides/.

  • One address, one owner

The database enforces uniqueness. A taken address names its owner and offers a free alternative.

  • Reserved addresses protected

Addresses WordPress and other plugins need, such as wp-admin and feeds, cannot be taken by mistake.

  • A table built for scale

Addresses live in an indexed table rather than one large option, so lookups stay fast at any size.

Describe a content type once

Permastructures generate addresses from each item's own details, so a shop of thousands needs one line.

  • A pattern per content type

Posts, products, categories and every other type and taxonomy each have their own pattern.

  • Tags for everything

Build addresses from the slug, date, author, category path, top-level category, parent address or a custom field.

  • Preview on real content

See real items with their current address beside the one the pattern would give, before saving.

  • Saving moves nothing

A new pattern applies to new items. Existing addresses stay put until you choose to regenerate them.

  • SKU tag Pro

Put a product's SKU in its address for short, stable shop links that survive a rename.

Change addresses where you already work

From one list for the whole site, or from the screen where you write the content.

  • URI Editor

Every address of a content type in an editable list, with search, filters and paging.

  • Staged saves with undo

Edit as many rows as you like, save them together, and undo the save if you change your mind.

  • Permalink box

The custom address and its update mode sit on every post, page, product and term edit screen.

  • Quick Edit and list column

See each item's address in the list and change it from Quick Edit without opening the item.

  • No overwriting a colleague

If someone else changed the item after you loaded it, your save is refused instead of replacing theirs.

Decide what happens later

An address is a decision today and a policy tomorrow. Each item can have its own.

  • Follow the site setting

The default: new items get an address and existing ones stay where they are.

  • Keep my URI

Lock an address so renaming or recategorising the item never moves it.

  • Skip bulk tools

Protect an address from Regenerate and Find and replace as well, for links printed on packaging.

  • Update on save

Let an address follow its title and category automatically, with the old one redirected each time.

  • Use the WordPress permalink

Leave a single item out entirely without excluding its whole content type.

No link left behind

Changing an address is only safe if the old one keeps working. Here it does, automatically.

  • Old addresses redirect

Every replaced address is kept and redirects to the current one in a single hop.

  • WordPress addresses redirect

The address WordPress would have used is sent to the custom one, so /product/... never duplicates /shop/....

  • Corrections in the same hop

Trailing slash, letter case and http to https are fixed in one redirect, with the query string kept.

  • Redirects screen Pro

Every redirect on the site in one list: switch off, change the type of, or delete any of them.

  • Manual and external redirects Pro

Add redirects of your own, to pages on the site or to sites on an allow-list you control.

Change thousands of addresses safely

Every tool previews first, runs as a job you can watch, and can be undone.

  • Regenerate addresses

Apply a pattern to existing content, or send a whole content type back to its WordPress addresses.

  • Health check

Find and remove addresses and redirects that point at content which no longer exists.

  • Preview before every run

See how many items would change, be skipped or fail, with each address before and after.

  • Undo a run

Put every address a regenerate or find and replace run changed back to what it was.

  • Find and replace Pro

Rename part of many addresses at once, with plain text or regular expressions.

Bring your addresses with you

Move from another permalink plugin without a moment when an address goes unanswered.

  • From Permalink Manager

Import custom addresses, and optionally its settings and permastructures, from the Lite or Pro version.

  • From Custom Permalinks

Import the custom addresses of posts and terms.

  • A safe handover

While the other plugin is active this one stands its routing down, then takes over the moment you deactivate it.

  • Preview and undo

An import is a job like any bulk tool: preview it, watch it, undo it.

  • SEO plugin redirects Pro

Bring in the exact-match redirects kept by Rank Math, Yoast SEO Premium and SEOPress.

Works with the plugins you already run

Each integration starts by itself when its plugin is active. There is nothing to configure.

  • Polylang and WPML

An address and a pattern per language, with the translation plugin's own prefix or domain respected.

  • Yoast SEO, Rank Math, SEOPress

The primary category you choose in your SEO plugin is the one used in the address.

  • WooCommerce Pro

The shop page at any address, the SKU in product addresses, and WooCommerce's technical addresses protected.

  • Advanced Custom Fields Pro

Use field values in addresses, including related posts, terms and users, updated when the fields change.

  • Any custom post type

Public post types and taxonomies from any plugin are managed without an integration.

Know what your addresses are doing

A dashboard for the whole site and an explanation for any single address.

  • Dashboard

Managed addresses, addresses set by hand, old addresses redirected and recent changes at a glance.

  • History per item

Every change to an address, with the time, the person and the reason.

  • Debug screen

Type an address and read which item it shows or where it redirects, and why.

  • What a visitor gets

Request an address from your own site and see the status, the destination and who sent the redirect.

  • Safe mode

One switch returns the site to WordPress addresses without deleting anything, to rule the plugin out in seconds.

Built to be extended

A REST API, plain PHP functions and hooks at every decision the plugin makes.

  • REST API

Every screen is built on a documented API with a real permission check on every route.

  • PHP functions

Read, set and look up addresses in one line each, with the same checks as a hand edit.

  • Actions and filters

React to address changes, alter generated addresses, add tags, or cancel a redirect.

  • WP-CLI Pro

Run regenerate, find and replace, the health check and undo from the command line.

  • Multisite

Each site on a network has its own addresses, redirects and settings.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Getting Started

No. Activating the plugin changes nothing. Every post, page and category keeps the address it had until you type a new one or apply a pattern, and even saving a pattern leaves existing content where it is until you run Regenerate.
About a minute for the setup wizard, and it is optional. After that, typing an address in the URI Editor or saving a pattern on the Permastructures screen is all there is to it.
It keeps working. The old address becomes a redirect to the new one, in a single hop, automatically. If an item has moved five times, all five old addresses go straight to the current one.

Features

Yes, and with the free plugin. Products and product categories are content types like any other, so a pattern such as shop/%product_cat%/%postname% gives every product an address under its category. Pro adds the shop page at any address and SKU and attribute tags.
Yes. An address you type always wins. It is left alone by the pattern, and you can lock it so that bulk tools skip it too.
Yes, in the free plugin. Each translation has its own address, each language can have its own pattern, and the same address can exist once per language.
Addresses are stored in an indexed table of the plugin’s own, not in one large option that is loaded on every request. Resolving an address is a single indexed query on a cold request and none when cached, and the plugin adds no rewrite rules.
Yes. Every bulk tool previews what it would do first. A regenerate or find and replace run can be undone afterwards, from the screen or from WP-CLI. The one exception is a health-check fix, which only deletes entries that pointed at nothing.

Moving From Another Plugin

Yes. The Import screen reads the addresses the other plugin stored and copies them, with a preview first. From Permalink Manager it can also bring its settings and permastructures.
No. While the other permalink plugin is active, this one stands its routing down and lets it keep serving visitors. You import, check the result, then deactivate the other plugin, and this one takes over the same addresses at that moment.

Pricing & Support

No. The free plugin is the whole permalink engine and never asks for a licence key. Pro is a separate download that adds six features on top: the Redirects screen, Find and replace, the WooCommerce and Advanced Custom Fields integrations, SEO redirect import and WP-CLI.
It stays. Both editions use the same tables and settings. Redirects you added on the Redirects screen keep working; they are simply no longer listed.
Your addresses, redirects and settings are kept unless you switched on “Delete all permalink data when the plugin is deleted”. Install it again and everything is where you left it.
