Plugixa Car Rental

Plugixa Car Rental is a car rental booking plugin for WordPress. Customers choose a pickup location and dates, see which cars are free and what each one costs, add extras and book online, on your own site.

You manage your fleet car by car, with pickup and return locations, opening hours and daily rates that get cheaper for longer rentals. A car is never rented twice, and your dashboard shows today’s pickups and returns, next to a searchable bookings list, payments and numbered invoices.

The free edition has no limit on cars, locations or bookings. Pro adds Stripe and PayPal, part payments, pricing rules, taxes, driver age surcharges, several currencies, signed inspections, PDF invoices, reports, calendar sync, text messages, delivery to the customer’s address and a Google map of your desks.

Features

Everything you need

A rental booked in a few short steps

The form your visitors book with. It shows which cars are free for their dates and what each costs before they type a name.

  • Step-by-step form

Dates and locations, choose a car, add extras, your details, then a confirmation with the booking reference.

  • Block and shortcode

Place it with the Car rental booking block or the [plugixa_car_rental_booking] shortcode, optionally starting at one location.

  • Live total

The car, each extra and the total are shown beside the form and update as choices change.

  • Your colours

Set the form's colours and look under Booking form style, so it sits naturally in your theme.

  • Made for phones

The same steps on a small screen, laid out for a thumb.

Your fleet, the way a rental desk sees it

Customers book a model. Behind every model are the real cars you hand over, each with its own plate.

  • Vehicle categories

Group models as Economy, Compact, SUV, Premium or anything you like.

  • Vehicle models

Make, model, seats, luggage, gearbox, fuel, an image, a deposit, a minimum driver age and a mileage limit.

  • Cars by plate and VIN

Every physical car with its plate, VIN, colour and odometer, booked one rental at a time.

  • Home location

Tie a car to the location it starts from, or leave it free to start anywhere.

  • No duplicate plates

A plate already in the fleet is refused however it is typed, and records still in use cannot be deleted.

Every desk you run, in one place

A location is where cars are picked up, returned, or both. Add as many as you have.

  • Unlimited locations

Airport, city centre, harbour: each with a name, code, address and whether it takes pickups, returns or both.

  • Opening hours

Hours for every weekday, with split shifts for a desk that closes at lunchtime.

  • Its own timezone

Each location keeps its own clock, so pickup times are right on both sides of a border.

  • Closures

Close a location for a day or a range of dates. Nobody can pick up or return there.

  • After-hours fee

Allow handovers outside the opening hours for a fee, added to the price automatically.

Charge the way rental companies charge

A daily rate per model, cheaper for longer rentals, worked out on the server for the exact rental.

  • Daily rates by length

Rates in brackets such as 1-2, 3-6 and 7 or more days, so a week costs less per day than a weekend.

  • Rates per location

One rate for every location, or a different one where a desk needs it.

  • Pricing rules Pro

Seasons, weekends, long-rental and early-booking discounts, applied day by day.

  • Pricing calendar Pro

See the daily price of each model on a calendar, with your rules applied.

  • Tax rates Pro

Tax per pickup location, added to the price or included in it, on every quote and invoice.

A car is never rented twice

Every search and every booking is checked against the real cars, the real bookings and your rules.

  • Checked under a lock

Two customers reaching for the same car at once cannot both get it.

  • Holds that expire

A car is held while the customer fills in their details, and freed the moment the hold runs out.

  • Turnaround time

Time for cleaning and refuelling between two rentals of the same car.

  • Booking rules

Minimum notice, how far ahead customers may book, the shortest and longest rental, and a grace period for late returns.

  • Calendar sync Pro

Share each car's availability with other booking sites and read their bookings back in.

Every rental, findable in seconds

One list for every booking, from the first hold to the car coming back.

  • Search and filters

Find a booking by reference, name or email, and narrow the list by status and other filters.

  • Statuses from pending to completed

Confirm, hand over, take back and close a rental, or mark a no-show, from the booking screen.

  • Desk bookings

Take a booking by phone or at the counter, priced and checked exactly like one from the site.

  • CSV export

Export the bookings you have filtered to a spreadsheet.

  • Trash and restore

Finished bookings go to a trash first, so a slip of the mouse can be undone.

More on every rental, and offers that work

Add-ons the customer chooses with the car, codes that take money off, and the questions you need answered.

  • Extras

Child seats, sat nav, an additional driver or full damage cover, per rental or per day, with a price cap.

  • Coupon codes

A percentage or an amount off, with valid dates, a usage limit and a shortest rental.

  • Custom fields

Your own questions at checkout, such as a flight number, shown on the booking.

  • Driver age Pro

Ask the driver's age, keep each car to drivers old enough for it, and add young or senior driver surcharges.

  • Delivery and collection Pro

Bring the car to the customer's address and fetch it back, priced by road distance within your range.

From pay at pickup to card payments

Every payment and refund is recorded on its booking, and what is paid and owed is worked out from that record.

  • Pay at pickup or by transfer

Offline methods with your own instructions and bank details. Choosing one confirms the booking.

  • Payment record and refunds

Record money taken at the desk and refunds given, and see at a glance what is still owed.

  • Stripe and PayPal Pro

Card payments on Stripe's secure checkout and payments through PayPal, with refunds from the booking screen.

  • Pay part now Pro

Customers paying online can pay a share now and the rest at pickup.

  • Several currencies Pro

Let customers book and pay in other currencies, at exchange rates you set.

Everyone told, and less to ask you about

Customers get their booking by email and manage it themselves. Your team hears about every new rental.

  • Customer booking page

Opened from the emailed link, or found again by reference and email, as a block or a shortcode.

  • Cancellation by rule

Free until a number of hours before pickup, then a fee of a number of rental days that you set.

  • Booking emails

Confirmation and cancellation emails to the customer, and a notice to your desk for every confirmed booking.

  • Text messages Pro

Text the customer when their booking is confirmed or cancelled, through Twilio or Vonage.

  • Telegram alerts Pro

Post each new, cancelled, picked-up or returned booking to your team's Telegram chat.

Run the counter, keep the paperwork

Today's work at a glance, invoices that hold up, and Pro tools for inspections and reports.

  • Dashboard

Pickups and returns today, cars on rent, overdue returns, bookings to confirm and the last 30 days.

  • Numbered invoices

Issued when a rental is completed, numbered without gaps, never changed, printable by your desk and the customer.

  • PDF invoices Pro

Invoices as PDF files: downloaded from the booking, offered to the customer and emailed when issued.

  • Inspections and signed agreements Pro

Damage on a map, photos, fuel and odometer at pickup and return. The customer signs on screen and gets the agreement as a PDF.

  • Reports Pro

Revenue, bookings and fleet utilisation over any period, by vehicle model and pickup location.

Getting Started

Open Plugixa Car Rental in the WordPress admin menu. Start with your locations, then your vehicle models, the cars behind them and their rates. A car can be booked once its model has a rate for the length of the rental.
WordPress 6.5 or later and PHP 8.2 or later.
Add the Car rental booking block, or paste the [plugixa_car_rental_booking] shortcode. For the page where customers view and cancel their booking, use the Car rental: manage booking block or the [plugixa_car_rental_account] shortcode.
Usually because its model has no published rate for the length of rental searched at that pickup location. A car also needs to be published, and free for the whole rental including the turnaround time. A car whose home location is elsewhere is not offered at another location.

Fleet and Bookings

A model is what the customer books, such as a Toyota Corolla Hybrid, with its seats, luggage, gearbox, fuel, deposit and minimum driver age. A vehicle is one real car of that model, with its own plate and VIN. Availability is counted car by car.
No. Every booking and every unpaid hold is checked under a lock, with a turnaround time after each rental, so the same car is never rented for overlapping dates.
On the server, from the model’s daily rate for the number of days. Rates come in brackets, such as 1-2, 3-6 and 7 or more days, so longer rentals can cost less per day. A rate can apply at every location or at one. Extras, an after-hours fee and a coupon are then applied.
Yes. From the link in their email they open their booking and cancel it, free of charge until the number of hours before pickup you set, and with a fee of a number of rental days after that. From the pickup time on, only your desk can cancel.

Payments

Card payments through Stripe and payments through PayPal are part of Pro. The free plugin offers pay at pickup and bank transfer, with your own instructions.
Open the booking and record the payment. It is added to the booking’s payment record, and the booking shows what is paid and what is still owed. A refund is recorded the same way.
Yes. An invoice is issued when a booking is completed, numbered without gaps and never changed afterwards. Your desk and the customer can print it. PDF invoices, emailed to the customer, are part of Pro.

Privacy and Data

No rental data is sent anywhere. No vehicle, location, booking or customer record leaves your site. In Pro, Stripe, PayPal, Twilio, Vonage, Telegram, Google’s Routes API and Google Maps are contacted only after you switch on the feature and enter your own keys.
They are kept by default, so installing it again picks up where you left off. A switch under Settings, Uninstall erases all data when the plugin is deleted, if that is what you want.
Use WordPress’s own tools, Tools, Export Personal Data and Erase Personal Data. The plugin finds the customer’s bookings by email address. Erasing anonymises finished bookings and keeps open rentals and invoiced bookings, telling you why for each. It also suggests a paragraph for your privacy policy under Settings, Privacy.
In the plugin’s own tables in your WordPress database.

Free and Pro

No. There is no limit on cars, locations or bookings, and nothing in the free plugin is time-limited or switched off pending payment. Pro is a separate download that adds features.
Stripe and PayPal payments, paying part now and the rest at pickup, pricing rules with a pricing calendar, taxes, young and senior driver surcharges, booking in several currencies, vehicle inspections with signed PDF rental agreements, PDF invoices, reports, calendar sync with other booking channels, text messages and Telegram alerts, delivery and collection at the customer’s address, and a Google map of your desks.
Yes, with Pro. Put the [plugixa_car_rental_map] shortcode on a page to show your desks on a Google map, with a list beside it that customers can search or sort by distance with Near me. Each desk shows whether it is open now, its lowest daily price, a Book here button that opens the booking form with that desk chosen, and Directions. The booking form’s first step can also show a map to choose the pickup desk. You need a Google Maps API key and a latitude and longitude on each location.
€39 a year for one site, or €59 a year for unlimited sites.
