Car wash coupons: can you combine them with loyalty rewards? Plugixa Car Wash icon

The quick answer: which car wash coupons can be combined with loyalty rewards depends on the rules each car wash sets, so customers should check the offer’s terms or ask the wash. In Plugixa Car Wash, a booking system for WordPress, the rule is simple: a booking takes one code, so a coupon and a loyalty reward cannot be used together. A coupon can still earn loyalty points, because points come from what the customer actually pays.

The rest of this guide is for car wash owners deciding how discounts and rewards should work together.

Using a reward and earning points are different things

“Combining” a coupon with loyalty can mean two things, and the answer differs:

  • Using a coupon and a reward code on the same booking: no. A loyalty reward is itself a single-use coupon code, and the booking form takes one code.
  • Using a coupon and earning points on that booking: yes. Points are worked out on the booking’s total after the discount.

What can be combined in Plugixa Car Wash

On one booking Allowed?
Coupon + loyalty reward No. Both are codes, and a booking takes one.
Coupon + gift card No. They share one code field.
Reward + gift card No. The one-code rule applies.
Coupon + earning points Yes. Points follow the discounted total.
Gift card + earning points Yes. A gift card does not lower the total.
Coupon + membership Partly. The coupon applies only to what is left to pay.

Coupons are included in the free edition. Loyalty points, gift cards and memberships are Pro features.

A worked example

Take the default loyalty settings: 1 point for each 1 spent, and 100 points for a reward worth $10.

A customer books a $39.99 wash and enters a $10.00 coupon. Leaving tax aside:

  1. The booking total is $29.99.
  2. When the wash is marked completed, the customer earns 29 points (the total, rounded down).
  3. Without the coupon, the same wash would have earned 39 points.

The coupon lowers the points earned, but does not cancel them. A later booking can use a reward code once the customer reaches 100 points, but that booking cannot also take a coupon.

Why one code per booking helps owners

With the default settings, a customer spends $100 to earn a $10 reward, so you give back 10%. Allowing a coupon on top would raise the discount on that booking beyond what you planned. On the $39.99 wash above, a $10 coupon and a $10 reward together would take off half the price.

One code per booking keeps the discount on each wash predictable. Customers can still save with a coupon today and a reward on a later visit.

How to set it up

1. Create a coupon

Open Plugixa Car Wash, then Coupons, and click Create. Choose a percentage or a fixed amount, then add any limits you need: dates, total uses, a minimum booking or specific packages.

Customers enter the code on the last step of the booking form, under Have a promo code?. The summary then shows the discount as its own line.

2. Set up loyalty points (Pro)

Open Settings -> Loyalty points and choose the points earned for each 1 spent, the points needed for a reward and what the reward is worth. The screen shows how much a customer spends to earn one reward and the share you give back.

The Loyalty points settings: 1 point per 1 spent, 100 points for a reward, a reward worth $10, giving back 10.0%

3. Tell customers how rewards work

A customer claims a reward from their account page, or staff can claim it for them. The code is emailed to the customer and works once. Online, they must be signed in to use it, because a reward belongs to the customer it was issued to. At the desk, staff can apply it to a booking for that customer.

Common questions

Which code should a customer use if they have both? Whichever saves more on that booking. A reward takes off a fixed amount, while a percentage coupon saves more on a larger booking. A coupon limited to certain packages only works on those packages.

Do coupons reduce the points earned? Yes. Points are based on the total after discounts and tax, so a lower total earns fewer points.

Do customers earn points when they book? No, points are earned when the booking is marked completed. Nothing is earned for a cancelled booking or a no-show, and a booking only earns once.

Does a member wash earn points? A member wash with nothing to pay earns 0 points, because points follow the total.

Can staff give extra points? Yes. Staff can add or remove points on the customer’s page and note a reason, such as goodwill for a missed wash.
