Yoast SEO, Rank Math and SEOPress - Plugixa Permalink Manager

An SEO plugin tells search engines what each page’s address is. These three integrations make sure it tells them the address you chose.

The primary category

A post can be in several categories, but its address can only contain one. All three SEO plugins let you mark one as primary on the edit screen.

With the integration on, that is the category %category% uses. A post in both Camping and Hiking with Camping marked primary gets /journal/guides/camping/....

The same applies to any taxonomy the SEO plugin offers a primary term for, such as product categories.

Without an SEO plugin, or when no primary term is chosen, the plugin picks one itself and always picks the same one, so an address does not flip between two categories.

Canonical tags and sitemaps

  • The canonical tag in each page’s source points at the custom address.
  • The XML sitemap lists custom addresses, not WordPress ones.
  • With Yoast SEO, the URL in the social (Open Graph) tags uses it too.

Search engines therefore see one address per page, the one you set.

Their redirects PRO

Each of these plugins can keep redirects of its own. Running two redirect systems is confusing, so Pro can import their exact-match redirects into the Redirects screen.

Nothing to configure

Each integration starts when its SEO plugin is active and shows as On on the Integrations screen. Its switch turns the cooperation off if you would rather the SEO plugin chose categories by its own rules.

After changing addresses

Search engines pick up new addresses from the sitemap and follow the redirects from old ones. There is nothing to resubmit by hand, though checking the sitemap after a large Regenerate run is a sensible habit.
