Currencies - Plugixa Car Rental
Currencies PRO let a customer pick another currency on the booking form, see every price in it, and pay in it. Your rates, extras and fees stay in your store currency. Each price is converted at an exchange rate you enter.
This is more than a display: a booking made in US dollars is charged in US dollars by Stripe or PayPal, and its invoice is in US dollars. What the customer sees is what lands on their card statement.
Set it up under Plugixa Car Rental -> Settings -> Currencies. Your store currency itself is set in the section below it, Currency; see Settings. Currencies is an app, on by default in Pro; if the section is missing, switch it on in the App manager.

Adding a currency
The card reads: “Customers can choose one of these on the booking form, and are charged in it. Prices are worked out from your rates in EUR at the rate you enter here; nothing is fetched from an exchange-rate service, so update the rates yourself.”
Click Add a currency for each currency you accept. Each row has:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Currency code | The three-letter ISO code, such as USD, GBP or CHF. |
| 1 EUR = | How much of that currency one unit of your store currency is worth. For US dollars at 1.08, enter 1.08. Up to six decimals. |
The bin button, Remove currency, deletes a row. Press Save at the top of Settings to keep your changes.
When saving, a row is dropped silently if:
- its code is not three letters,
- it repeats a code already listed, or is your store currency,
- its rate is 0 or less (or above 1,000,000).
You can add up to 20 currencies.
Keeping rates up to date
No exchange-rate service is called. The rates are yours, and they stay as you typed them until you change them. This is deliberate: a rate that moved on its own would let the same car cost a different amount between the search and the payment.
Changing a rate changes the price of new quotes only. A booking keeps the currency and the amounts it was made with.
What the customer sees
With at least one extra currency saved, the first step of the booking form shows a Currency list beside the dates. Your store currency comes first and is selected by default, followed by the codes you added.
Choosing a currency prices every car again in that currency: the daily rate, each line of the summary, the total and the security deposit. The customer then books and pays in it.
With no extra currency saved, the field is not shown.
How prices are converted
Everything is first priced in your store currency, exactly as without this feature: the rate card, pricing rules, fees, extras, coupon and tax. Then:
- Each line is multiplied by the exchange rate and rounded on its own, to the chosen currency’s decimals.
- The subtotal, discount, tax and total are added up again from the converted lines.
That way the lines on the bill always add up exactly to its total in the currency charged, instead of a total converted separately that could be a cent apart.
Example at 1 EUR = 1.08 USD:
| Line | In EUR | Charged in USD |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Corolla Hybrid, 3 days | 165,00 | 178.20 |
| Child seat | 15,00 | 16.20 |
| Total | 180,00 | 194.40 |
Conditions are still checked in the store currency. A coupon’s Minimum spend, for example, is compared with the subtotal in EUR before conversion.
After the booking
- The booking stores its currency, and all its amounts are in it.
- Online payments are taken in it, and refunds are made in it.
- If the booking is priced again later (for example when a coupon is applied), it stays in its own currency.
- Reports PRO never add two currencies together. Revenue is shown one currency at a time, with a Money shown in switch when there is more than one.
If you change your store currency
The store currency itself is not converted by this feature. If you change it under Currency, check the rates here again: they are all relative to the store currency, and a row with the new store currency’s code is dropped on the next save.
