Extras - Plugixa Car Rental
An extra is an add-on a customer chooses with their car: a child seat, sat nav, an additional driver, full damage cover, a roof rack. Each extra is charged either per day of the rental or once per rental, and a per-day extra can have a cap so a long rental does not cost a fortune in child seats.
Open Plugixa Car Rental, then Extras in the Bookings group of the app’s sidebar.
Extras is an app. It is on by default and can be switched off in the App manager. While it is off, the booking form has no Extras step and the desk booking form shows no extras.
The list

| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name | What the customer reads. |
| Price | The price and how it is charged, such as “€8,00 · Per day” or “€20,00 · Per rental”. |
| Cap per rental | The most a per-day extra costs for one rental, or a dash for none. |
| Most per booking | How many of this extra one booking may take. |
| Status | On is Published, off is Unpublished. Only Published extras are offered. |
The search box is labelled “Search extras…”. Filters, Export CSV and the Active / Trash switch work as on every list.

| Field | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Required. “An extra needs a name.” | |
| Status | Published | Published or Unpublished. |
| Price | Required. Zero or more: “A price cannot be negative.” An extra at 0 is offered free, which suits a service you want the customer to ask for. | |
| Charged | Per day | Per day or Per rental. |
| Cap per rental | 0 | “0 for no cap”. Only for Per day extras; the field is greyed out for Per rental. |
| Most per booking | 1 | From 1 to 20: “A booking may take between 1 and 20 of an extra.” |
| Description | “One line the customer reads under the name.” |
A cap below one day’s price is refused, because it would always apply: “The cap is less than one day’s price, so it would always apply. Raise it, or set it to 0.”
How an extra is priced
The number of days is the rental’s billable days, counted as described on the Rates page.
| Charged | Price of one |
|---|---|
| Per rental | The price, once. |
| Per day, no cap | Price x days. |
| Per day, with a cap | Price x days, or the cap if that is lower. |
The cap applies to each one taken, not to the line as a whole. Two child seats at 8 a day with a cap of 40 cost 80 on a 10-day rental: 40 each.
The result is multiplied by the quantity and rounded to the currency’s decimals. With the demo extras:
| Extra | Rental | Calculation | Line total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Child seat, 8 a day, cap 40 | 4 days | 8 x 4 = 32, under the cap | 32 |
| Child seat x 2 | 4 days | 32 each | 64 |
| Child seat | 7 days | 8 x 7 = 56, capped at 40 | 40 |
| Full damage cover, 15 a day, cap 105 | 4 days | 15 x 4 = 60 | 60 |
| Roof rack for surfboards, 20 per rental | any length | 20 | 20 |
Each extra is one line on the booking, such as “Child seat” or “Child seat × 2”, with the quantity, the price of one and the total. In the charges table on a booking, a per-day extra shows its price for the whole rental in the Price column.
Extras are charges like the rental itself, so they count towards the subtotal a coupon is worked out on, and tax PRO is worked out after the discount. See Tax rates.
What the customer sees
When at least one extra is Published, the booking form has an Extras step between choosing the car and entering details. The heading reads “Add extras to your Toyota Corolla Hybrid”. Each extra shows its name, its description and its price, written as “{price} per day”, followed by “at most {cap}” when the extra has a cap, or “{price} per rental”.
The customer sets a quantity with the minus and plus buttons. The plus button stops at Most per booking. A quantity sent above it is reduced to it on the server, so the limit cannot be got round.
An extra that is Unpublished or in the trash is simply not charged if somebody sends it anyway: the price is always worked out on the server from the extras that are offered at that moment.
Extras on a desk booking
The New booking form in the admin has an Extras section with every Published extra, its price and how it is charged. See Bookings.
After the booking is made
The extras are stored on the booking as lines, with the price they had at that moment. Changing or deleting an extra later does not change existing bookings. If a pending booking is priced again (for example when the customer applies a coupon), the extras it already has are priced again with the current settings.
Trash and restore
Deleting an extra moves it to the trash, where it is no longer offered. Switch the list to Trash to restore it.
