Driver age - Plugixa Car Rental
Driver age PRO adds a Driver’s age field to the booking form and uses it in two ways:
- A car whose Minimum driver age the driver does not meet is still shown, with its price and the reason, but cannot be booked.
- A young driver, and if you want an older driver, pays a surcharge for each day of the rental, which you can cap per rental.
Set it under Plugixa Car Rental -> Settings -> Driver age. It is an app, on by default in Pro. If the section is missing, switch on Driver age in the App manager.
The settings
The card reads: “The booking form asks the driver’s age. A car whose minimum age (set on its model) the driver does not meet is shown but cannot be booked. 0 turns a surcharge off.”
All fields are saved with the page’s Save button.
Young drivers

Out of the box, young drivers are recognised (under 25) but nothing is charged until you enter a surcharge, and the senior band is off.
The minimum age of each car
The minimum age is set on each vehicle model, not here: open the model under Fleet and fill in Minimum driver age (16 to 99, 21 for a new model).
When the driver’s age is below it, the car stays in the search results with its price and the message “Drivers of this car must be at least 25.” (with that model’s age), and it cannot be selected. Trying to book it anyway is refused with the same words. So a 21-year-old searching sees the Fiat 500 and the VW Polo as bookable and, with a minimum of 25 on it, the BMW 3 Series as not.
The model’s minimum age is checked only while the Driver age app is on, because without it the form does not ask the age.
What the customer sees
Driver’s age is a number field on the first step of the booking form, beside the dates and locations. It starts empty and must be filled in: the form offers no age of its own, so a young driver cannot skip the surcharge or a car’s minimum age by leaving the field alone. It accepts 16 to 99. Changing it prices the cars again.
The server checks the age too, not only the browser. A search, or a request to hold a car, that comes without an age from 16 to 99 is refused on the age field with “Enter the driver’s age, from 16 to 99.”
When a surcharge applies, the price summary has one more line:

A driver is in one band at most. If the two bands overlap, the young band wins.
How the surcharge is worked out
surcharge = surcharge per day x billable days, then capped at At most per rental if it is more than 0
The result is rounded to the currency’s decimals. It is a charge like an extra:
- Pricing rules PRO do not change it.
- A coupon percentage is worked out on the subtotal that includes it.
- Tax PRO is charged on it, or included in it if prices include tax.
The driver’s age is kept with the booking’s surcharge line, so if the booking is priced again later (for example when a coupon is applied), the same age is used.
Bookings made at the desk
The New booking form in the admin has its own Driver’s age field: “Leave empty to skip the age check and surcharges.” Left empty, no age is checked and no surcharge is added, since the desk checks the licence in person. Fill it in to apply the same rules as the booking form.
What is stored
The setting values are kept with the plugin’s other settings. The age itself is not stored as a field of the booking; it is kept only on the surcharge line when a surcharge applies. The app creates no table.
