Free vs Pro - Plugixa Advanced User Role Editor
The free edition is a complete role editor, not a trial. Nothing in it is disabled, nothing is time-limited, and it contains no Pro code waiting to be unlocked.
Pro is a separate download: the same plugin plus a pro/ directory holding
three more features. Whether a feature exists on a site is decided by whether its
code is there, never by a licence check.

What Pro adds
Admin menu
One grid with a column per role. Tick what each role sees in the admin menu; the screen behind a hidden item is refused too. A role can be set to show only what you tick, so menu items from plugins installed later stay out until you allow them. See Admin menu.
Screen clean-up
Per role, hide dashboard widgets, toolbar items, the front-end toolbar, notices from plugins and themes, edit-screen boxes and block editor panels. See Screen clean-up.
Activity log
Every change to roles, people and the plugin’s rules: who, when, from where and exactly what. One change can be undone on its own, the log exports to CSV, and an email can be sent when someone is given full control. See Activity log.
The first two are about what people see, not what they may do. Permissions are edited in the free part of the plugin, in both editions.
Pricing
Pro costs €49 a year for one site, €99 for five sites and €179 for unlimited sites.
Licensing
Licences, payments and updates are handled by Freemius.
- There is no trial. The plugin does not offer a time-limited one.
- The licence is not a feature switch. The plugin never asks Freemius whether a feature may run. Pro features run because the Pro download contains their code.
- What is sent. When you activate a licence or check for an update, your site address, the plugin and SDK versions and your licence key are sent to Freemius. An opt-in screen is shown on activation; if you skip it, no identifiable data is sent. Nothing about your roles, permissions or users is sent anywhere. See Privacy and uninstall.
Moving between the editions
Installing Pro over Free keeps everything: roles, people, restore points and settings are the same data in both editions. The Pro features’ own storage is created automatically the first time the plugin loads with Pro present, so no reactivation is needed.
Deleting one edition while the other is active does not remove any data. The plugin notices the other edition is still active and skips its clean-up.
If Pro is removed
Going back to the free edition does not delete what Pro stored, and it does not leave anybody locked out.
| Pro data | What happens on the free edition |
|---|---|
| Admin menu rules | They stay stored, and nothing applies them. Every role sees its full menu again, and no screen is refused by a menu rule |
| Screen clean-up rules | They stay stored, and nothing applies them. Widgets, toolbar items, notices, boxes and panels all show again |
| Activity log entries | They stay in the database. No new entries are written and there is no screen to read them |
Because the code that applies the rules is part of Pro, the free edition cannot enforce them. Installing Pro again finds the stored rules and applies them as before.
Roles, people, restore points, redirects and settings are unaffected either way.
Switching a Pro feature off under Settings, without removing Pro, has the same effect for that one feature: its screen goes, its rules stop applying, and nothing it has saved is deleted.
Uninstalling the plugin altogether, with no other edition active, removes all of its own data, Pro’s included. Your roles and the permissions you set stay. See Privacy and uninstall.
