How the Pro gate works
The plugin uses Freemius to manage licensing. The pro/ directory is shipped only with the Pro build (@fs_premium_only directive in the main plugin file).
- If
pro/is missing on disk, every Pro feature falls back to free behavior, even if the license system reports Pro. This lets you test the free experience by renamingpro/toproOld/. - Pro REST endpoints return
403with an upgrade URL when called from a free install. - Pro React modules render an upgrade card instead of the feature UI.
- Pro form fields (e.g., Video URL) appear dimmed with a PRO chip + Upgrade button overlay on free installs.
- Free installs are capped at 2 views. The “Add View” button converts to an upgrade CTA when the limit is reached.
Upgrade flow
- Go to Plugixa Testimonial → Account in wp-admin.
- Click Upgrade — you’re redirected to the Plugixa checkout.
- After payment, Freemius activates the license and swaps the plugin to the Pro build automatically.
- Your existing testimonials, categories, and views are preserved.
Downgrading
If you let a license lapse, Pro features stop working but your data is preserved. Existing video URLs, custom fields, and 3rd+ views stay in the database — they just become read-only until you renew. Re-activating a license restores access instantly, no data migration needed.
