Shortcodes and block - Plugixa Car Wash
The plugin has three shortcodes and one block. Pro adds no shortcode of its own: its features appear inside the pages below.
| Shortcode or block | What it shows |
|---|---|
[plugixa_carwash_booking] |
A booking form |
| Car wash booking form block | The same booking form, chosen from a list in the block editor |
[plugixa_carwash_account] |
The customer account |
[plugixa_carwash_app] |
The staff app, on a page of your site |
The booking form
[plugixa_carwash_booking form="1"]
| Attribute | Default | Value |
|---|---|---|
form |
0 |
The number of a booking form. Left out, or 0, the first published form by name is shown. The form decides the layout, what customers choose, which locations, vehicle types and packages are offered, the fields, the agreements and the colour. |
Without form, [plugixa_carwash_booking] shows your first published form by
name, which is all a site with a single form needs. With several forms, name the
one you want. You do not have to find the number yourself:
Configuration -> Booking forms shows the complete shortcode for each form,
with a button that copies it.
What the shortcode shows instead of the form
| What you see | Why |
|---|---|
| Nothing at all, for visitors | form names a form that does not exist or is in the trash, or names a form whose status is Unpublished, or form is missing and no form is published at all. Somebody who may edit posts sees “Plugixa Car Wash: this booking form does not exist or is not published. Check the form number in the shortcode.” in its place. |
| “This booking form is not available.” | The form was unpublished or deleted while a visitor had the page open, or the page was served from a cache. |
| “Online booking needs JavaScript. Please enable it, or call us to book.” | JavaScript is off in the visitor’s browser. |
| A booking’s confirmation | The address carries ?pcw_booking= and a booking’s private code, as the link in the confirmation email does. See Booking form. |
A page can hold several booking forms, each with its own settings.
The block
In the block editor, add Car wash booking form. It is in the Widgets category, and also comes up when you search for “booking”, “car wash” or “appointment”.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Booking form | Chosen from a list of your published forms, in the block and in the sidebar. Until one is chosen the block reads “Choose which booking form to show on this page.” |
| Alignment | Wide or Full. The wide layout leaves room for the summary column beside the steps. |
The editor shows a placeholder card with the form’s name and “Customers will book here. Preview the page to see the live form.” Preview the page to see the real form. When you have no published form yet, the block shows a Create a booking form button that opens the form editor in a new tab.
The block stores only the form’s number. The page is drawn by the same code as the shortcode each time it is viewed, so changing a form, or updating the plugin, changes every page that shows it, and the block behaves as the shortcode does when the form is missing.
The customer account
[plugixa_carwash_account book_url="/book-a-wash/"]
| Attribute | Default | Value |
|---|---|---|
book_url |
empty | The address of your booking page. When set, the signed-in customer sees a Book a wash button that leads there. Empty leaves the button out. |
Put it on a page of its own. The customer signs in with a link sent by email, which brings them back to this page, so keep the page published at the same address. See Customer account.
Without JavaScript the page shows “Your account needs JavaScript. Please enable it.”
The staff app
[plugixa_carwash_app mode="embed" width="wide" height="800"]
The same app as in wp-admin, on a page of your site, for staff who should not see the WordPress dashboard. It talks to the same API, so each user sees and changes exactly what they could in wp-admin.
| Attribute | Default | Value |
|---|---|---|
mode |
embed |
embed shows the app in a frame inside your theme’s page, with the site’s header and footer kept. full replaces the whole page with the app and drops the theme’s styles. Any other value is read as embed. |
width |
wide |
With embed: wide, full or content, matching the block editor’s wide, full and content widths. Any other value is read as wide. Ignored with full. |
height |
0 |
With embed: the frame’s height in pixels. 0 lets the stylesheet decide. A value under 320 is raised to 320. Ignored with full. |
Only signed-in users who may open the app see it: by default, administrators. Everyone else, signed in or not, sees “Sign in to open the car wash app.” with a Sign in link that returns to the page. See Roles and permissions for letting other staff in.
Keep the page private or out of your menus: the sign-in notice is all a visitor
gets, but there is no reason to point them at it. The app moves between screens
with addresses after a #, such as #/schedule, so a link to a screen on that
page works as it does in wp-admin. The app has no block.
Where shortcodes can be used
Anywhere WordPress runs shortcodes: a page, a post, a Shortcode block, a page builder’s shortcode element or a widget area that supports shortcodes.
The booking form’s script and its font stylesheet are loaded only on pages that show a booking form or the account page. The confirmation email links back to the page the booking was made on, so publish the form on a page that stays at the same address.
