Demo data - Plugixa Exam
Two features on one screen that are constantly mistaken for one.
The dataset
A complete worked example:
- 11 subjects
- 8 tags
- 54 questions across every question type
- 12 exams spanning every access mode and release policy
- 22 sittings in every state an attempt can be in
It exists so that every other screen has something on it. An empty analytics chart, an empty monitoring board and an empty marking queue demonstrate nothing, and that is exactly what a new install shows you.
Optionally it creates eight demo learner accounts, named after the people in the sample results, sharing one password shown on the screen. Removing the demo data deletes them.
Demo mode
A write lockdown. While it is on, anybody without the settings capability can read the whole product and change none of it.
It exists so a public demo survives its visitors. Taking exams still works, which is the part visitors are there for.
They are separate on purpose
Installing the dataset does not switch demo mode on, and demo mode does not require the dataset.
That is a deliberate departure from the system this was ported from, which installed them together - and whose status panel had already been fixed once because it asked one question when it meant the other.
The practical consequence: if you are seeding a development site for screenshots or testing, install the dataset and leave demo mode off, or you will capture a read-only product.
Removing it
Reset removes what it installed, including the demo accounts. It does not touch anything you made yourself, because it keeps a receipt of what it seeded.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| Nothing can be saved anywhere | Demo mode is on. It is the lockdown, not the dataset. |
| The install button does nothing | The dataset is already installed. The panel says which. |
| Demo exams are mixed in with real ones | Expected on a site that already had content. Reset removes only the seeded rows. |
| Reset left some accounts | Only accounts it created are removed. One that has since been edited may be kept. |
